Deputy General Manager – Luxury Safari Lodge

Our client is seeking an experienced Deputy General Manager with a strong Back-of-House and support-services background for a luxury safari lodge in the North West. This is not primarily an F&B or Front-of-House DGM position. The successful candidate will take significant responsibility for the operational departments that keep the lodge functioning behind the scenes, including Housekeeping, Maintenance, Stores, Procurement, Stewarding, Receiving, Security and related support services. Working closely with the General Manager, you will drive efficient, cost-effective and disciplined BOH operations while ensuring they support exceptional guest-facing standards. Responsibilities include: •Oversee daily BOH and support-service operations •Lead Housekeeping, Maintenance/Engineering, Stewarding, Stores, Receiving and related functions •Implement and monitor operational SOPs •Maintain exceptional cleanliness, safety and property standards •Manage procurement, inventory, stock rotation and cost controls •Monitor equipment, machinery and infrastructure •Ensure preventative maintenance and repairs are completed •Manage operational waste and sustainability practices •Assist with budgets, forecasts and operating-cost controls •Monitor labour costs, staffing levels and timesheets •Prepare operational reports, stock audits and maintenance records •Lead, coach and develop operational teams •Manage performance and departmental accountability •Conduct health, safety and compliance inspections •Identify operational gaps and implement improvements •Coordinate closely with F&B, Rooms Division and Front Office Requirements: •Grade 12 •Hospitality Management qualification advantageous •5–8+ years’ hospitality operations/support-services experience •Proven experience managing teams within a busy hotel or lodge environment •Strong experience managing multiple BOH departments and sizeable teams •Good understanding of maintenance and facilities operations •Procurement, inventory and stock-control experience •Strong budgeting and cost-control ability •Knowledge of stewarding and operational support services •Health, safety and compliance knowledge •Strong leadership, planning and problem-solving skills •Valid driver’s licence
